"Myself and many of my colleagues were extremely disappointed to find out there were no apple fritters at the market this year, especially since they are advertised in the brochure. Please bring back the apple fritters next year. Thanks" - Alison, 2007
Unfortunately, cancelation of the apple fritter booth for this year was beyond our control. Regulations prohibiting certain equipment and a lack of volunteers to do the work are part of the reason. An attempt is being made to locate a chip wagon (that would be decorated as a hut) for next year's event. In an effort to offer something new this year, and in the same location is a "Pig on a spit" We're hoping "pulled pork on a bun" becomes a big hit. Also a family favorite are waffles from the Waffle Hut (and post office). They are freshly baked as you watch and topped with whip cream and your choice of raspberries or strawberries.
"...my mom and I went last night (Wednesday) with my daughter and were a little disappointed. We have never been on the opening night yet, we normally go on the Friday night but we did not know that on the opening night, only some food vendors were open - not all. Also, one vendor was shut down by the health department...the first time in 13 years we were disappointed (and perhaps came on a bad night) but first time visitors who came last night would probably not have had a good experience when seeing these kind of things." - Lisa 2007
The health inspection of our vendors is something we have no control over. It was very unfortunate you and others could not go home with your favorite meats. I attended the market this morning and all the vendors are now open. We apologize that your experience on Wednesday did not match previous years. Please consider that this event is organized and put on thanks to hundreds of volunteers (with some event support from the City of Kitchener). Some dedicate many hours throughout the year, some belong to choirs, bands, dance groups and other organizations and donate their talents during the event. There are simply some things such as health department regulations that are simply beyond our control. We thank you for your understanding and hope you'll spend time with us again before closing on Sunday. If so, be sure to drop by the information booth to say hello.
We went last night at 6 PM (Wednesday Dec 5th) not all vendors were open - no animals outside for my granddaughter - would not go again on the first day. also some food vendors that were open were closed down by the health department ! Suggest more seating for eat in - could use enclosed tent outside with benches - just to sit and eat the food from outside vendors.
Yes, it could be clearer on the website, so here goes... The animals arrive at the nativity as part of the candlelight procession when Mary and Joseph and Scooter and McLoud (the 2 donkeys) are searching for the Inn. They find rest in the manger at Kitchener's City Hall square from Thursday at 6PM to Sunday at 5PM. For your information, the donkeys overnight indoors at City Hall.
The idea of a tent is a good one, however there is very limited space on the square. Over the weekend when there are more people in attendance, space is even more at a premium. Indoors, there is the area outside of Williams coffee shop, and upstairs (2nd floor) in the Kafe Stube. See the floor plan on this page http://www.christkindl.ca/about/map.
We hope you are able to come back before Sunday at 5PM. If so, please drop by the info booth to say hello.
