This year marks the 10th anniversary of the German Language School Children's Choir participation in the Christkindl Market. The choir is made up of students from the German School who range in age from Junior Kindergarten to grade eight. The students spend each Saturday morning from September through May learning German at two area schools. After classes end, choir members rehearse for about an hour, learning traditional German carols and folk songs, as well as the latest children's music popular in Germany.
The choir is active in the community singing at such venues at German Pioneer Day, local Christmas Parties, Senior's Homes, the Kiwanis Festival and even on the radio.
Angelika Werner created and directs the choir. She is a certified elementary teacher who also teaches at the German School. She runs "Angelika Werner Productions" which offers musical programmes for children and teens. Participants have the opportunity to learn, rehearse and perform in cabarets, concerts and musicals in the community. Miss Werner's choirs have sung in the Kiwanis Festival, at Ranger's Games, local churches, the Festival of Lights, Remembrance Day ceremonies, with the Waterloo Regional Police Choir and at several Senior's Residences.
Check out when you can see them.
