Schneider Male Choir
Founded in 1947, the Schneider Male Chorus has earned the reputation of being one of the most active and widely traveled choruses in Canada. We have traveled many thousands of miles and presented hundreds of concerts in Canada, United States and Europe. On our tour of Eastern Ontario in 1955, it was our privilege to sing for members of Parliament and many government officials. In the United States we have appeared on a number of occasions in Rochester, N.Y., Milwaukee, Wis., Chautauqua, N.Y. where we had the honour of opening the season of summer programs, and in Pigeon, Michigan. In March of 1965 we flew to Bermuda and while there presented a number of concerts under the sponsorship of the Hamilton Rotary Club. In June 1966 we went on a week long Centennial tour of Northern Ontario presenting a series of six concerts, traveling a total of 1600 miles. In 1972, we traveled through the Maritimes for a one week concert tour and in 1980 another tour through the Atlantic provinces. In 1995 we highlighted our year end with a tour of North Yorkshire, England, Amsterdam, Haarlem and the Canadian Second World War Cemetery at Grosbeek, the Netherlands. From there we traveled from Cologne Cathedral down the Rhine to Heidelberg and the University of Heidelberg, to Unterowisheim, Germany, the birthplace of J.M. Schneider's father, then on to Riems and Paris, France for concerts in the major cathedrals. In May of 2004, the Schneider Male Chorus traveled to Wales and North Yorkshire, England.
Locally, we annually perform many, many concerts at Seniors' Residences, Long Term Care Facilities, Churches and other venues within Kitchener and the immediately surrounding areas.
Although the chorus is made up of non-professional singers, our aim has always been to maintain a high standard of performance. Our men devote many hours of rehearsal and performance to the joy of singing.
Today, the Schneider Male Chorus is under the direction of Nancy Kidd, with Barbara Kellerman and Lori Danylchuk as accompanists.
