In German folklore, it's said that nutcrackers bring good luck to your family and protect your home. It represents power and strength, like a watchdog guarding your family against danger. A nutcracker bares its teeth to evil spirits and serves as a messenger of good luck and goodwill. Our three-foot-high wooden nutcrackers were hand-painted and decorated by members of the Kitchener Waterloo Society of Artists. Two styles of wooden bases were lasercut by Walter Marinuzzo of KW Designs. The idea started as a conversation between Lori Gove and Monica Reid on how we could help our talented local artists connect with our visitors. If you like the idea and think this should become an annual tradition, let us know on our Instagram or Facebook pages.
Click and use your < > buttons to scroll through the gallery below. You're invited to connect with the artists using the links we've provided. Open up the Advent Calendar to reveal a "Nutcracker of the Day."
Take a walking tour and visit the actual Nutcracker Gallery at the corner of Benton Street and Charles Street, Kitchener. Peer through the windows to see them in all their glory!

The Christkindl Festival has been, and still is, a very special part of our Christmas celebration. We always get excited and look forward to basking in the nostalgic glow of the warm hospitality, family atmosphere, fantastic food, great products and the angelic sounds of the Christmas choir. Thank you for all the wonderful, lifelong memories - for ourselves and more importantly for our children. To another 100 years of Christkindl Market, Kitchener! Frohe Weihnachten
